The Zika virus is no laughing matter, so we’ll get right to the point. Quickly gaining Ebola-level notoriety, the Zika virus is spread to people primarily through mosquito bites, but also through sexual contact. There’s no vaccine, so the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests using EPA-registered insect repellents as a preventative measure, particularly in countries where Zika and other viruses are spread by mosquitoes. For prevention, your Zika AAACK! Pack has mosquito repellent, as well as condoms.
And, if you happen to be the unfortunate one in five people infected with Zika virus who becomes ill, we have you covered, as well. The most common symptoms are fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis (red eyes); less common symptoms are muscle pain and headache. There is no specific medicine to treat Zika virus, so your best option is to treat the symptoms. Most importantly, and this one’s up to you, get plenty of rest and drink fluids to prevent dehydration.
